For the past 2 months I have been going for 1 to 2 mile morning walks to get in a little exercise and also to clear my head. This morning while walking through my neighborhood I came across this VW Super Beetle. From the looks of the bumpers I believe this is a 1973 (which was the first year 5 mph bumpers were required). This Beetle brings back so many fond memories of my youth because in 1973 I purchased my first new car which was ironically a 1973 VW Super Beetle. For those of you that are not VW Beetle fans the Super Beetle featured a curved windshield, redesigned dashboard and a blower motor to control the heat output (very high end for a Beetle). Regular Beetle’s featured a flat windshield and the more conventional convection heating system. Both systems were still controlled by 2 levers in between the front seats but there was much less chance of your breath fogging up the front windshield on hot humid summer days and cold winter mornings. Photo was taken with my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

My wife Terry grows a variety of flowers in her garden every year but the carnations are new. With the amount of flower beds we have in our yard she  tries to stick with perennials because we are both getting too old to plant annuals every year. Our ol’ backs ain’t what they used to be. Image was taken with a Fujifilm X-T4 and XF 90mm R f/2 lens.

I was sorting through some old images and came across this one and stopped in my tracks. I realized the person wearing the red flannel shirt in the background is no longer with us. This image is about six years old and it was taken after a four hour photo walk with my dear late friend Patricia Fogarty. Patti was also one of the original seven Main Contributors on our black and white only website Monochromia. Patti was a great street photographer and I learned so much from her. One of the best things about going into Manhattan to shoot with Patti was enjoying a cold IPA (or maybe a few) afterwards and talking for hours. From our start as photo bloggers we became the best of friends in real life. I miss you Patti.
