My name is Joe and I am retired, or as my friends across the pond would say a pensioner. I have been into photography as a hobby for about forty years but for the last twenty I did not use my camera much because my working life got in the way . Now that I have some time on my hands I would like to share some of my work so the obvious choice was to start this blog. I would still consider myself an amateur photographer even though it has been part of my life for so long. Now that I have retired it seems that my passion for photography has returned. I am hoping this will reflect in my photos, but only time will tell. Any comments on my blog or photos would be greatly appreciated.
Life is definitely good !

Hi JOE! Liked your photos of the old republic factory! I have been a P-47 Thunderbolt buff for many years, and yes I couldn’t agree with you more about the way big companies treat their employees these days!! I thought the American dream was for EVERONE!! Tom

Thank you very much Tom :) The P-47 Thunderbolt is indeed a very impressive machine. Most people seem to think the American dream is for everyone. Then you live and learn. The American dream is still true for entrepreneurs and big corporations that can exploit workers like they did in the early 1900’s. Have a great evening Tom.

Hello Joe!
Thank you for following my blog. You have Wonderful photos and such creative titles that perfectly tie into the subject of the photo. I’m sorry that I can’t name just one favorite. Like Splash of Color, but Verdigris is good and You have to Crawl before you Walk is great! Love your blog!
I know how many interesting blogs are out there and feel honored that you picked mine to follow. I hope my stories entertain and inform and my photos bring you joy and wonderment.
I travel mostly local but try to always find interesting places. I have lived in several different places and dig through my archives of photos to bring glimpses into places I have been. Sometimes I post a recipe because food tells a lot about culture.
I am not a professional photographer, so my photos are sometimes a little fuzzy and there are telephone poles and wires and other things along with what I was photographing. The older photos are 35mm, the newer are point and shoot digital and a few are Samsung Smartphone.
I am new to blogging so if you have any advice or critique please drop me a comment.
Thank you again for following and to quote Mark Twain: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” – Mark Twain

Thank you very much for following my blog. Like yourself I am not a professional photographer and while I do travel some I mostly take my photos locally. The best advice I can convey to you is don’t worry about equipment you are using, some of the best photos I have seen have been taken with smartphones and point and shoot cameras (one of my best shots was in my post “Clearly” which was taken with a Fuji X20 which I consider to be a point and shoot). If you want to view that photo go to the About Me page of my blog and there will be a search field in the upper right hand side, just type Clearly in that field. Have a wonderful day Iris :D

With my blog I hope to inform, teach and bring smiles to those who read. Since January 2011 I have created more than 300 posts to share my writing obsession. If you are on a publishing journey I hope these posts have made it easier.
When I’m not talking about the writing and publishing world, I’m talking about my art, my animals (donkey, goats, chickens and ducks), the weather and living in Nova Scotia.

Wow, I’ve been a photographer about that long too. Started out with big 4×5 Speed Graphic. Had to use a small suitcase to carry the film backs in. I bet you remember those too. I’m not quite retarded (I mean retired) yet. Having your own business means you can slow down, but still generate some income. My photography slowed down with everyone getting into digital and not really needing my expertise anymore, then I started keeping bees. Suddenly I had a whole new world to photograph…and videotape. Digital, I’m sure you will agree, is so much more fun because you don’t have to wait a week for the transparencies to be processed. I agree with you…”Life is definitely good.”

Congratulations on retirement Joe. I’ve been quasi retired since 2004 after working at the same company for nearly 25 years. I found it a bit unsettling at first, even though I looked forward to change. It’s great that you’ve nurtured your creative passion for photography for this long and now can dedicate more time doing what you enjoy. I use my camera almost everyday but not so much with an artistic eye, mostly to help tell my stories at the blog. I really admire those who make everyday life look fantastic on film, can’t wait to explore your site.

Thank you Louise for your kind words. Your photos with the D7100 are so great I wouldn’t even worry about full frame (more sensor more cleaning). I have been using Nikon for about 35-40 years I just wish they would come out with a very compact mirror less camera like the Olympus. I also wish my D610 had the 51 point focusing system like your 7100. Have a great day :D
