Leica D-Lux (Type 109) – 1/400 @ f/2.8 – ISO 200
I am always searching for a small compact camera that can be my every day carry and does not sacrifice image quality. As most of you know I am an avid Fuji shooter and my every day carry was a Fuji X100T but that has a fixed 23mm lens. I wanted something with a high quality fast zoom lens and at least a micro 4/3 sensor. I love the Fuji X30 also but I have given that camera to my wife in hopes that she can express herself through images. I think I might have found it with the newest Leica D-Lux camera. This image is an out of camera JPEG file with only a vignette added in post processing.
A gorgeous photo Joe, and I think trying out new cameras is your passion. 🙂 Looks like this one works really well in your hands.

Interesting to read the discussion – I’ve gone though quite a few cameras in the last five years, and it’s always a challenge at first, but it’s fun, too, to see what the newest one does.

Joe, what is wrong with me that as soon as I start seeing numbers and letters after the name of the camera, that I totally zone out. I know you were trying to sell two cameras.
How many total cameras do you own now?

LOL I would have just said Leica but then the purists would probably write me hate messages saying “it’s not a Leica unless it’s made in Germany”. I put the model number to indicate even though the camera says Leica it’s made in Japan. As for cameras I own 2 Fuji X-T1’s and an assortment of Fuji lenses, 2 Fuji X100T’s, a Leica type 109 and the Fuji X30 I just gave to Terry so she could get her creative juices flowing. You might say I like the number 2 😜

Dammit, Joe. What are you doing to me? I just committed to spending $500 on a new Fuji lens and now you’re hawking the Leica? I’m going to have to stop following you. You’re costing me money!

LOL no worries Emilio the Leica is a D-Lux compact camera (which many Leica fanboys don’t really consider a Leica because its not made in Germany). In typical “Joe” fashion I got a deal on it. I still am very committed to the Fuji system and the image quality on them surpasses this new Leica compact. Like many people I really can’t afford to buy into the Leica “M” system (well I can but Terry would kill me). One 35mm Leica lens would cost me more than my whole camera collection. Now all I have to do is sell my duplicate Fuji X-T1 and X-100T’s 🙂 Now tell me more about this new Fuji lens you just bought.

While in Lehi Utah over the weekend, I called my local camera store here and told them I wanted to purchase the lense and pick it up in store today when I am back in town. They said the sale is through July 2 and they have plenty in stock so I will pick it up today. 🙂

Cool which lens did you buy ?

Very soothing image Joe. I still have the same 2 Nikons I have had for years, and the Canon Power Shot. I think that by the time I get a chance to get out and use them they will be totally obsolete. I hope not!

Thank you Gale 🙂 Cameras really don’t get obsolete they just get classic. Rechargeable batteries on the other hand tend to go flat if not used (they lose their ability to hold a charge). Any kind of camera that has replaceable batteries that is not going to be used for a long time should have the batteries removed.

Thanks for the tip, Joe. I am thinking of upgrading

The image quality is not in the same league as some APS -C size sensor equipped cameras but it’s damn close Derrick :). Thanks.

Thanks, Joe. I only recently (aged 70) came to digital, after a lifetime of film, so I need something simple 🙂

Both the Panasonic and Leica models have a fully automatic mode Derrick so no worries with picking either brand 😀

Very nice, Joe. I just got the Lumix LX-100 and so far, love it. It does have a Leica lens. Didn’t realize they were “twins”.

Thank you very much Jane:) The Panny and the Leica are twins but for some reason the Lumix is made in China and the Leica made in Japan (I could just see the faces on the Leica snobs saying “if its not made in Germany its not a Leica:, LOL). I am sure the images are identical on these two cameras but I think the menu system is a little different. Good luck with your LX-100 Jane:)

That’s funny, Joe. It’s a welcome step up from my old basic Olympus. Much more of a learning curve. I wanted something as a nice alternative when I didn’t want to lug my d800. The lumix is on a big trip today in Helsinki then onto Scandinavia – she’s very excited! 😉
