Thank you Elina 🙂 When the winds come from the south the waves get even higher. A couple of miles west of this spot there is an area called Gilgo beach which is famous on Long Island for surfers and the waves are the highest.

Thank you very much John. I took this photo at 200mm to compress the perspective but in actuality the ships do come pretty close to the beach on Long Island (I think its a shipping lane). This was taken from the beach at Robert Moses State Park Field 5.
