Fern
Nikon D610 and Tamron 90mm Di SP f/2.8 Macro Lens – 1/250 @ f/7.1
I wanted to show the detailed texture of these fern leaves so I decided to use the full frame sensor on the Nikon D610 to maximize the detail in the shadow areas. I got lucky because it was an overcast day so the light was soft and diffused. Please note although the aperture is set to f/7.1 the depth of field is still very shallow when using any sort of macro or close up lens combined with a full frame sensor. Just a little tip to keep in mind for when you go out and shoot macro.

This is the entryway into the courtyard at the Cornelious Vanderbilt Mansion and estate in Centerport, Long Island. the black marks on the top of this image are because of restoration work being done above this entry on the bell tower.
Belgian Beer and Mussels

What a treat it was to be invited to spend an evening with good friends, sharing fresh mussels and delicious belgian beer! Yum!! There are not many better ways to end the work day.
To be honest, I’ve often converted to B&W when the color and lighting of an image just weren’t right. Involvement with Monochromia has encouraged me to think sans color when I am out and about with my camera, and to actively search for images that will celebrate B&W photography. I had a feeling that mussels and beer might provide good subjects. What do you think?
It seems that people often think of B&W photography as mostly dramatic, moody, and serious, so today I wanted to show the fun. Those who know me will not be surprised by that!

I’d Rather Be Sailing

This is a view of Centerport Harbor from the courtyard of the Cornelious Vanderbilt mansion in Centerport, Long Island. Cornelious Vanderbilt was a railroad tycoon and played a very important role in American history as one of the “Men who built America”. He is also responsible for the beautiful Grand Central Station in New York City which was thankfully renovated and restored to its former glory.

This was performed on the “America: A Tribute To Hero’s” telethon which took place on September 21, 2001 exactly ten days after the 9/11 tragedy. I hope you enjoy this special performance.
