This is the entryway into the courtyard at the Cornelious Vanderbilt Mansion and estate in Centerport, Long Island. the black marks on the top of this image are because of restoration work being done above this entry on the bell tower.

I love the texture of the brick road in the photo. I’m just glad I’m not on a bike riding on that road :)

Awesome! Looks very inviting (if you are with the elite and powerful club) or very ‘no trespassing’ if you are a commoner or don’t have an invitation! 😊

I’m a commoner so if it wasn’t a museum now I would have been thrown in the moat :) Thanks and have a great evening.

Imagine the work involved in making that brick road! How far is this from you?

It’s about 14 miles from where I live Laurie. The whole complex is covered with these cobblestone roads. If I could locate it on Google Earth I will email it to you :)

Looks like the entrance to one of our castles Joe…maybe it was done in the medieval style on purpose

Vanderbilt did a lot of traveling so maybe it is modeled after one of the old medieval English castles. Thanks and have a great day James :)

It would be perfect and the name would fit right in too :) (well maybe Spike’s gate).
