Belmont Lake State Park was purchased in 1936 and was the former estate of August Belmont. Â The Belmont estate was formerly used as a farm for thoroughbred race horses. Â During the War of 1812 the US captured a British war ship after a battle on the Great Lakes. Â These cannons we taken and years later placed in front of the Belmont mansion
