How do you do this, Joe? The clarity is incredible.
When was this built? I was trying to find some history on The Pencil and if I have the right info, it was bult 85 yrs ago.

    • Thank you Laurie ๐Ÿ˜€ I think you are correct about the age of the tower. I believe this was part of the build out of parks and highways by Robert Moses. He designed a lot of the roads and bridges in NY and on Long Island. The pencil appropriately sits at the end of Robert Moses Causway and the beginning of Robert Moses State Park on Fire Island. From RM State park you can walk east along the beach all the way to Kismit, Saltaire and Ocean Beach but most people take the Fire Island Ferry from Bay Shore to Ocean Beach. East of RM State park there are no vehicles allowed on Fire Island (except for police and emergency vehicles). You have to either walk or rent bicycles at Ocean Beach. I love that you invited yourself and when you do come visit Iโ€™ll show you all of these places mentioned.
