My Favorite Year

ChevroletTwo

I am more of a Ford person but there is no denying the great looks of the 1957 Chevrolet. I think it is one of the best looking model years, and back then the manufacturers changed the body style each year.

From any angle this car just looks great.

1957 is also the year “fins” started to appear on every manufacturers auto line. These cars used to drive the gas station attendants crazy also. Notice the door in the chrome above the tail light was where the gas filler was hiding. Younger people might think “what gas attendant ?” Years ago there was a gas the attendant that pumped the fuel, checked your oil and cleaned your windshield (and that was all for 39 cents a gallon gas).

Bullets like the pair of them on this Chevy’s hood were also very popular. I hope you enjoy.

  1. Your beautiful shots do the car proud Joe! Can you imagine future generations doing the same for all those lookalike SUV’s? I can’t. BTW, have you ever been to Detroit?

    • I never really thought of that Patti, LOL. I can’t imagine the classic car show of the future. How boring will that be with those look alike SUV’s and Mini-Van looking things, hahaha ? I could just hear the promoter yelling through the PA system “and here we have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra”, LOL. I have never been to Detroit Patti 😦 Have a great day.

  2. It is certainly well polished! Can you tell I’m not much of a car person? 🙂 We still have forecourt attendants at some petrol stations here – the language is different, but the job is the same. I choose to go there because I like the service and having my oil checked and my windows cleaned. I really like your photos Joe, and am glad to be following along at last.

    • First of all thank you very much for the compliment on my photos Pauline I appreciate it 🙂 I think it is so cool that you still have some stations that have attendants. I also liked the service of checking the oil and cleaning the windows. There are only a couple of towns on Long Island that have fire ordinances that require full service but they no longer clean windows or check oil. They just pump the gas for you. Have a great day 🙂

  3. I don’t consider myself a ‘car’ person, but your photos certainly triggered some strong memories. My oldest brother had a 57 Chevy when I was around 10 years old. By the point he got it, it had been extravagantly used but I remember it vividly. My 17 year old brother looked mighty fine in it 🙂

    • No just a car show in New York, but Cuba does have a lot of old classic American cars on the road 🙂 Have a great day …. Joe

  4. Beautiful images from great angles. The ’57 was a classic to be sure, and that era produced many an iconic body style. However, my money is on the stable of muscle cars from the late 60s to the early 70s, with 1969 topping the list. I admit that I’m biased as came of age during this era! Well done series on some sweet rides.

  5. Your pictures reminded of my youth years when I was growing up. This baby is absolutely awesome. Thank you for sharing this one-of-a-kind automobile from an era when style was king of the road.

    • Thank you very much Omar and I agree. Style was king of the road in that era. Back in the 50’s the sheet metal changed every model year. Have a great day 🙂

    • Thank you very much 🙂 There was much more emphasis on style back then. I had a 56 Chevy and the filler was behind the tail light and it was comical to see a attendant that was new to the job looking for it, LOL. Have a great day.
