First of all let me apologize for yelling in the title of this post, but I get excited when I see this guy. Now I know there are some of you out there who know him.
Those were the days when the Good Humor man would drive around the neighborhoods ringing his bell and all the kids would be chasing the truck. I really think he didn’t stop immediately to make us work a little for our ice cream, LOL. When he would finally stop he would get out of the truck dressed in white with his bow tie and hat (even if it was 105 degrees out).
Those were the days when the most expensive thing he sold was 25 cents. I was at a local car show over the weekend and I came across this wonderful old 1960 Ford Good Humor ice cream truck and it brought back some great memories.
Now if I could only find an old Bungalow Bar truck !
Do you love black and white photography ? If so please check out our new project Monochromia – http://groupexpo.wordpress.com
When our boys were young, we lived in the city relatively close to the downtown core. We had an ice cream truck come by our street every evening in the summer at the same time – 7:30pm. We would wait for it faithfully.
When we finally moved to the suburbs, the ice cream truck was the one thing we missed more than anything else. Husband still talks about it in a wistful sort of way! Thanks for the memories 🙂

You would have to be such a happy chappy to ring this bell day after day! Love the thought of all you little morons running around like crazy!

Imagine what a headache he went home with, although lately it seems the ice cream men in NY sell Percocet. That makes the headache all better, LOL. We really were morons because we ran for blocks, LOL. Thanks Patti and have a great evening 🙂

There’s an ice cream truck that drives around my neighborhood during the summer. I found it a little surprising as I didn’t think that was done anymore.

Back in the day these trucks along with another brand “Bungalow Bar” would drive around and ring their bells all summer. The “Bungalow Bar” trucks were very noticeable because of the hip roof on them (they were like little rolling bungalows). “Bungalow Bar” also reminds me of an episode of “The Sopranos” where the late great James Gandolfini explains to a neighbor that John Gotti bought a Bungalow Bar truck at an auction and drove it home. He said “John rang that f…… bell all the way home”, LOL. Have a great day Justin 🙂

Oh what a fun post, Joe! I love the photo of the bells on the front of the truck. Such happy memories. I remember the excitement!
By the way … I’ve been pondering how I will “imitate” your work … I’ll know it when I see it!

Came back to check that out, LOL, James’s friend is rather diabolical, I think that’s a rather clever bit of espionage though…haha, good one.

Isn’t that fantastic? We have an icecream ‘truck’ still buzzing around here. It’s more like a little go cart though. I used to love both Orange Creamsicles and these other icecreams with those little candy dots all over it. But we usually had to SHARE a popsicle. Good times.

Did you happen to notes the comment by James (smackedpentax) I almost laughed myself do death 🙂 Orange Creamsicles were the best I agree 🙂

Thank you Bess 🙂 As a matter of fact it was like the “sweet air” when you go to the dentist, it was hysterical. To tell you the truth after we got done running after the truck like morons we all layed on the ground gasping for air when he did stop 🙂 Have a great day.

We still have them in New Zealand – they are called Mr Whippy and yes they still go around the neighbourhood and play the ‘Greensleeves’ tune. The ice cream is soft and oh so yummy. 😀
