As most people already know Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt the 26th American President. I was planning to post a series of photos of the main home but unfortunately when I arrived at Sagamore Hill I learned the main house was off limits due to extensive renovations so I had to take a photo from the only angle I could get with a telephoto lens.
This is an image of the windmill that was used to drive a steel cable that operated a pump for water delivery into the home.
Here is an image of the steel cable going through the roof of the pump house which is completely underground except for the roof.
A copy of newspaper from May 1905 explaining how much President Roosevelt loved his Long Island home.
Very nice images, Joe! A place that would be great to visit in person.

Thanks Mike, I was so disappointed about the renovation of the house though. Enjoy your weekend π

Architecture styles are my favorite photography genres. The main house and its accessory buildings are gorgeous. I agree with the rest of your readers about the beauty of the steel cable. Your powerful zoom lens was worth its salt. The more pictures I enjoy here, the more I’m interested in your work. BTW, the Fujifilm X-E2 is awesome! Thank you for sharing. Probably you are aware that Teddy Roosevelt was here in Panama to inspect the building of the Panama Canal at the turn of the XXth century. He was one-of-a-kind character.

From what I have read about him Teddy was quite a character and I am aware that he visited Panama during the building of the Panama Canal ( a wonderful achievement). He was also a great conservationist, an area in which almost all US Presidents after him were sorely lacking. Thank you for your kind comments and I am constantly amazed at the results I get out of this Fuji X-E2 and lenses. Have a wonderful evening Omar π

Who doesn’t love Teddy? and if they don’t, I don’t want to know about it! What a conservationist he was and I am not surprised about the windmill. Your close up of the cable is awesome!

Imagine what great shape we would be in if every President since him was a conservationist. The windmill was a great idea and according to all the comments this steel cable was a big hit π Have a great evening Laurie.

We went there a few years ago on arbor day. Β It was very nice. They had the Teddy actor come out to give a speech and plant a tree.

Great shots Joe, but I really like the close-up of the steel cable going through the roof. The steely-grey of the background really offsets the details. Have a great morning π
